Melina Luna Smith

Melina is the Creative Director and Founder of StoryMakers NYC. Mama of Two: Henry 15, Sophia 17, and a Pastor’s wife.

Over the last two decades, Mel has worked with families in a variety of settings. Her career began with families and children in home, group homes, and in school settings. The work revolved around helping families reconnect, resolving behavioral patterns, and creating solutions in school settings. Mel transferred her behavioral work experience into family ministry in 2008. She brought her creative approach and expertise to Calvary St. George’s Church. During that decade StoryMakers was born. Mel saw a real need for a fresh approach, one that was focused on the Gospel, and deeply considered the social-emotional growth of the child. “ We have ONE ambition in common: to share the old story with children, families, and educators. Approaching the Bible without the proper lens is to approach the text blindly.

StoryMakers is here to equip listeners, parents, and teachers with creative content that is theologically sound. We want parents to have easy access to scripture and the confidence to teach the Christian faith.” In addition, Mel noticed the constant challenges the church has faced over the last twenty years. StoryMakers is an attempt to bridge the gap and spark biblical literacy for the next generation. Through a creative approach and flexibility, StoryMakers is here to support faith communities no matter their size or capacity to resource their congregations. “Let the children come unto me, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew.
